Rain Threat Looms In Chennai; What Happens If IPL 2024 Qualifier 2, Final Get Washed Out
New Delhi: After rain washed away three league matches in the ongoing IPL 2024, the same threat looms ahead of Qualifier 2 (on May 24) and the summit clash (May 26), both of which are set to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. According to the Regional Meteorological Department (RMD) on Wednesday, Chennai is going to receive light rainfall in some parts for the next three to four days.
Based on the report, Chennai will have partly cloudy skies for the next seven days with light rainfall in some isolated areas. The temperature will also hover around 35-36 degrees in the daytime while the minimum temperature to be around 27-28 degrees.
Notably, Qualifier 2 doesn’t have a reserve day in case of rain while the IPL 2024 final has. Last year, the IPL final was held in two days in Ahmedabad due to rain. If the Qualifier 2 is washed out, the team that finished ahead in the table in the league stage will go through the final. In case no play is possible in the final across two days (considering the Reserve day too), then the team that finished ahead in the points table after the league will lift the title.
As far as the IPL 2024 is concerned, Kolkata Knight Riders have already made it to the final after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in Qualifier 1. Rajasthan Royals are taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Eliminator. The winner of the Eliminator will play Sunrsisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2. Whoever wins in Qualifier 2 will take on KKR in the final.
