Marvel’s Vision series is finally coming to Disney+ in 2026
In 2021, WandaVision brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen for the first time. It was the first Disney+ series produced by Marvel Studios, with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their respective roles as Wanda Maximoff and Vision. We saw the epilogue of Wanda's story in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but the mysterious White Vision from the finale vanished without a trace. Now, after years of radio silence, it looks like the long wait for a Vision series on Disney+ is finally coming to an end.
According to Variety, Marvel hired Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas to explore what happened after the rebuilt Vision flew away from Westview in WandaVision. Matalas will be the showrunner, and Paul Bettany will return to play Vision. The new show doesn't have a title or release date yet but should debut in 2026.
Initially, WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer planned to head up a Vision series for Disney+, but she eventually decided to focus on an Agatha Harkness spinoff instead. Agatha All Along will be set after WandaVision as well and premieres on September 18, 2024.
As Variety notes, this will be the first new live-action show Marvel has picked up in close to two years. Marvel's only other confirmed live-action shows that have yet to launch -- Ironheart and Daredevil: Born Again -- were announced in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
Marvel has yet to confirm any of this news, but if it comes to pass, the Vision series will be the first new live-action show commissioned after the extensive TV business overhaul the company underwent in 2023. At long last, Marvel is hiring showrunners to run its shows instead of having executives oversee them and try to fix everything with reshoots.
As a result, what might seem like a low-stakes spinoff series about a relatively minor character on the surface could be our first glimpse at the future of Marvel TV.
