BRA staff off the job again; UWU still not recognised

Some Barbados Revenue Authority staff are off the job.
General Secretary of Unity Workers Union (UWU), Caswell Franklyn, confirmed that they were continuing the industrial action which began a few months ago.
He said they were still concerned about several issues, including promotions, and his union was still not recognised as a bargaining agent for over 100 BRA staff members. He reiterated that UWU represented the most BRA members.
“BRA refuses to acknowledge that UWU is the most represented union at BRA. They specify that BRA will recognise whoever the workers bring and we’ve written to them.
“They acknowledged it, said they would get back to us by the end of the week. The end of the week now is a couple of months so they are not serious,” Franklyn said.
He made those comments at Warrens Tower II, St Michael in the presence of auditors, accountants and other impacted staff members.
He said staff at Holetown and Bridge Street, The City were also off the job.
He stressed that they were also concerned about supersession.
“We have a lot of issues that we need to deal with. “Management are bringing a lot of people and putting them over the current staff.
“They are getting senior posts but then are asking these people to train them.
“Now if I can train people to do a job, I should be able to do that job. . . so why are you recruiting?” Franklyn asked. (TG)
