'Put aside your cowardice': Furious Liz Cheney slams GOP over Trump's 'dangerous lie'

A furious former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WI) Wednesday slammed House Republicans for "blindly" following former President Donald Trump after he spread a debunked conspiracy theory she warned could provoke violence.

Cheney took to X Wednesday afternoon to condemn Trump for spreading the conspiracy theory that President Joe Biden had planned to assassinate him — a claim repeatedly debunked by political experts and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials.

"Donald Trump is unstable and dangerous," Cheney wrote. "He knows this is a lie that could again provoke violence from those who blindly follow him."

Cheney's next comment was directed at House Republicans — who the same day moved to strike from the record a Democrat's summary of the many criminal charges facing the former president.

"You know Trump is unfit," Cheney wrote. "When will you put aside your cowardice and stand up for what you know is right?"

Cheney's words were met with both staunch support from those who vented frustration with the Republican party and abject criticism from those who support the former president.

"America stands with Trump and it’s only a matter of time before criminals like you are sitting in prison," replied X user @OneBadDude.

As Cheney does not currently face criminal charges, this could be a reference to a comment from Trump suggesting she should be jailed for her role investigating the U.S. Capitol riots on Jan. 6. 2021.

But X user @SandieChill targeted a current Republican House member who echoed Trump's "deadly force" claim and went so far as to call it an assassination attempt — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

"So many Republicans repeating these lies," she wrote, alongside a screenshot of Greene's message. "It's dangerous."
