MasterChef winner revealed in closest ever final – as fans spot ‘proud’ John Torode and Gregg Wallace

MASTERCHEF declared a “worthy” winner as the show celebrated its 20th anniversary on air.

The programme saw a nail-biting final round where three contestants battled it out one final time in the hopes of being crowned champion.

Brin Pirathapan, who grew up in Chelmsford, Essex, and now lives in Bristol, was crowned the champion after emerging as the clear frontrunner from the start.

Brin won the contest after going up against farmer Louise Lyons Macleod, 44, from Exmoor National Park, and circus performer Chris Willoughby, also 44, from Oxfordshire.

The hopeful was left over the moon as he insisted he “couldn’t breathe” after the crowning moment.

John Torode and Gregg Wallace were left bursting with pride as they said of the final round and show outcome: “Twenty years we’ve been doing MasterChef. That is the best final we’ve ever done.”

Fans were left equally overjoyed with the result as they shouted from the rooftops about how impressed they were with Brin and were delighted that he managed to take home the trophy.

Writing online, one said: “Yup, correct choice – fantastic chef.”

As another added: “Well done Brin well deserved winner.”

Someone else penned: “Get in Brin! 100% the right winner! What a chef!”

Before a fourth wrote: “Yay, so happy Bryn won, he’s an amazing cook.”

Speaking after he was crowned the winner, Brin said: “I’m absolutely chuffed to bits. I can’t breathe.

“I’m a big mix of my background, my culture and all the opportunities my parents have given me.

“They’ve been incredible and I’ve done it for them as much as I’ve done it for myself.

“The experience itself has been incredible and to top it off with this is just the most amazing thing, ever.”

Earlier in the episode, fans were left raging after the hour-long episode went 23 minutes without any of the contestants stepping foot in the kitchen.

Instead, viewers were shown videos of Brin, Louise and Chris back home with stories about their lives, childhoods and families.
