Caffe Italia sets last day in Albany before Guilderland move

Caffe Italia Ristorante has announced the final day at its Albany location before the restaurant closes to move to Guilderland. The restaurant's last day at 662 Central Avenue is set for Saturday, May 25.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) --  Caffe Italia Ristorante has announced the final day at its Albany location before the restaurant closes to move to Guilderland. The restaurant's last day at 662 Central Avenue is set for Saturday, May 25.

Caffe Italia is run by the Romeo family, whose parents Joseph and Joanne Romeo opened the full-service restaurant in 1980. The space on Central Avenue has been Caffe Italia’s home for more than 40 years.

"We have shared some of life’s biggest milestones together," said the Romeo family in the Facebook announcement. "You have supported us through some of the world’s most uncertain times. Thank you to our community for your patience and kindness as we make this transition. We look forward to making many more memories together."

Caffe Italia is moving into the former Tesoro Italian Restaurant at 2080 Western Avenue in Guilderland’s Hamilton Square. Maria Romeo previously told NEWS10 that the space in Guilderland is larger, has a bar and seating for over 100 people, and has a parking lot. The space on Central Avenue does not have its own parking area.

Tesoro Italian Restaurant closed in June 2023 after owner and chef Raffaele Sainato decided it was time to retire. Sainato opened Tesoro at that location in 2008.

Romeo told NEWS10 that the Guilderland location does not have a set opening date yet. The Caffe Italia Facebook post said, "stay tuned in the coming weeks for information regarding the opening of our new home."
