New York City is one of the worst places to find a summer job: study

NEW YORK (PIX11) –  As the saying goes, work hard, play hard, and those looking for work in New York City might have a hard time finding work this summer, according to a new study by WalletHub.

With summer fun just around the corner, young adults in the Big Apple looking for that perfect summer job could need help landing job prospects for this summer. 

WalletHub compared over 180 cities across the U.S. to compile a list of the best and worst cities for summer employment. Surprisingly, while not the worst, New York City was among the top 20 cities where finding summer income might be challenging. 

The worst cities to find a summer job: 

  1. Laredo, Texas
  2. Memphis, Tenn.
  3. Baton Rouge, La.
  4. Moreno Valley, Calif. 
  5. Jackson, Miss.
  6. Bridgeport, Conn. 
  7. San Bernardino,Calif.
  8. Fontana, Calif.
  9. Riverside, Calif.
  10. Lubbock, Texas
  11. Brownsville, Texas 
  12. Shreveport, La
  13. New York City
  14. San Jose, Calif. 
  15. Oxnard, Calif.
  16. Fayetteville, N.C.
  17. Chula Vista, Calif.
  18. El Paso, Texas
  19. Montgomery, Ala.  
  20. Augusta, Ga.

The top cities to find summer employment were:

  1. Columbia, Md.
  2. Scottsdale, Ariz.
  3. Rapid City, S.D
  4. Portland, Maine
  5. Orlando, Fla.
