Get your first look at Liam Hemsworth in ‘The Witcher’
A guy from Jersey has magically transformed into a guy from Australia.
On Wednesday, Netflix released the first footage of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, the series lead role the Aussie actor has taken over from Henry Cavill, in “The Witcher” Season 4.
In the short clip, Geralt is leading his horse, Roach, through a dark and dreary landscape. We see the back of his iconic white-blond head. And as he turns around, he looks familiar but different.
Cavill departed the hit fantasy series after Season 3, and Hemsworth was brought in to replace him. It remains to be seen if and how Geralt’s new appearance is addressed.
“The Witcher” has already been renewed for a fifth and final season, which will shoot back-to-back with Season 4. Season 4 is in production in the U.K. now.
In addition to Hemsworth, the cast includes Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan (who has become a movie star in her own right with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”) as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Joey Batey as Jaskier, and Eamon Farren as Cahir. Laurence Fishburne and Sharlto Copley are adding some additional star power to Season 4, as characters called Regis and Leo Bonhart, respectively. Creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich serves as showrunner and executive producer.
Here’s the Season 4 logline, via Netflix: “After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out Season 3, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire and finding one another again.”
“The Witcher” was nominated for three Emmys for its second season in 2022, for fantasy/sci-fi costumes, special effects, and stunt coordination. It has won three BAFTA Craft Awards, two for visual effects and one for make-up and hair design.
Netflix has not set a premiere date for Season 4.
