Big weekend ahead for Lake Shawnee and public parks

TOPEKA (KSNT) - This Memorial Day weekend is expected to be a big weekend for local parks. 

Shawnee County is prepared for the high numbers expected at Lake Shawnee. With the opening of Shawnee County pools just in time for the weekend, the stage is set for the anticipated crowds. 

27 News spoke with Sean Zears from Shawnee County Parks and Recreation about taking advantage of the warm weather. 

"Take advantage of the pools," Zears said. "Take advantage of the of the parks. not only just this weekend but all summer long. Cause they are going to be here, and we are gonna do our best to take care of them."

The county said Lake Shawnee is visited by more than 1 million people each year. In addition to all the local parks, lakes, and pools, Shawnee County has some fun events lined up for this weekend. Learn more about them by clicking here.
