The Vees look for a 3-1 series lead in the Fred Page Cup Final, tonight in Game Four at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Penticton grabbed their first lead of the series on Tuesday, beating the Eagles 3-1 in Game Three; that’s back-to-back 3-1 victories in the series. Last night the Vees got out to 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Cade Littler and Zack Stringer. Callum Arnott scored in the third on the power play.
The penalty kill was the big story in Game Two. The Vees killed off all four Surrey power plays, all of which came in the second period. Penticton shutting down the league’s best power play from the regular season.
Penticton improved their home record to 8-2 in the postseason, as they have the second most home wins in the BCHL Playoffs. Going back to the 2022 postseason, the Vees have won 25 of their last 28 playoff games at the SOEC.
Since being pulled in Game One, Will Ingemann has responded by stopping 49 of 51 shots over the last two games. Ingemann is 11-3 in the postseason, with a 1.43 goals-against average and .937 save percentage. He’s tonight’s projected starter.
Surrey Eagles
GM & Head Coach: Cam Keith
Regular Season Record: GP 54 44-8-0-2, 1st Coastal Conference
Playoff Record: 13-8
Last Game: 3-1 loss at Penticton (May 21)
Home: 9-3
Away: 4-5
GF: 69
GA: 48
Power Play: (13/64) 20.3%
Penalty Kill: (14/44) 68.2%
Scoring Leader: Micah Burger (10-12-22)
Surrey looks for the series split and take back home ice advantage. The Eagles have lost back-to-back games for just the second time in these playoffs, and they have not lost three in a row all postseason. The Eagles know what’s at stake in Game Four.
After scoring six goals in Game One, the Eagles have scored just two in their last two games and have not scored an even strength goal since the series opener. They were held to a power play goal in Game Two and a six-on-five goal in Game Three. Unfamiliar territory for the league’s most prolific offence from the regular season.
The Eagles’ dynamic duo of Caden Cranston and Aaron Schwartz have combined for two points (1G, 1A) in three games. Micah Berger, who leads the BCHL Playoffs with 22 points, has two goals in the series. If the Eagles are going to win tonight, you have the feeling these three will have to play a starring role.
Surrey has won just four of their nine road games in the playoffs and have lost three of their last four on the road, dating back to the Alberni Valley series. The Eagles will need a road win if they will need to pick up at least one win at the SOEC to win this series.
