Anya Taylor-Joy opened up about her career in Hollywood during an interview with British GQ.

The 28-year-old Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga actress covered the publication’s Heroes Issue and will speak at the GQ Heroes conference in association with BMW in July.

Anya told the outlet that Furiosa brought her closer to her own rage in a healthy way.

“For all my championing of female rage, I’ve never been an angry person. For a long time the only time I ever got angry was on other people’s behalfs. I’ve always internalised this thing of ‘I’ve done something wrong. If you treat me badly, it’s because I am the problem,’” she admitted.

She continued, explaining, “And I’m so grateful for Furiosa, because there was a real moment where I started getting angry for myself. My husband was like ‘I’ve never heard you be like this.’ I was like, ‘I’m glad! I’m glad that I’m angry!’ If someone steps on me now, I’m like, ‘Hey, f**k you!’ That makes me feel good.”

The actress also noted that her character Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit took more from her on a personal level.

“My characters walk differently and hold themselves differently and cry differently,” she said, comparing them to her little sisters. “With Beth I was like, ‘Oh, you need my tears, you need my mannerisms, you need my walk.’”

The Heroes Issue of British GQ is available via digital download and on newsstands on 11th June. Learn more about the GQ Heroes Conference here.
