Report: ‘Lost half a year’ – Manager blamed for poor treatment of Tottenham starlet
Diario de Sevilla have heavily criticised Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores for his treatment of Alejo Veliz during his loan spell.
Veliz showed signs of promise in the opportunities that came his way during the first half of the season at Tottenham and when the 20-year-old made the loan move to Sevilla in January, he would have been keen to show his parent club that he was good enough to play at the highest level.
However, the striker’s spell at Andalusia has been a disaster as he failed to make a single start at the club, being restricted to just five appearances as a substitute.
Diario de Sevilla point out that Veliz only played a total of 30 minutes during his spell at Spain and they have taken aim at Flores for his treatment of the striker.
Alejo Veliz caught in the Sevilla crossfire
The outlet says that the manager, who is now set to depart Sevilla this summer, used the Tottenham loanee to help send a message to those above him.
They claim that Veliz and fellow loanee Hannibal Mejbri were ‘systematically ignored’ by Flores as a means to bite back at the club’s hierarchy, who he has long been in disagreement with.
The publication adds because of the former Watford boss’s civil war with those above him, the Argentine was caught in the crossfire and ‘lost half a year’ of his career.

It is quite possible that the Seville hierarchy gave verbal assurances to Tottenham that Veliz would get game time but Flores simply failed to follow through on those as he was not on the same page.
One would expect Spurs to potentially loan the teenager out to a Championship club for the first half of next season so that he can get some competitive minutes under his belt.
