South Forest Hill Residence
South Forest Hill Residence is a minimalist house located in Toronto, Canada, designed by Ashley Botten Design. The recent renovation project was driven by a long-standing relationship with cherished clients, continuing a collaboration that began over nine years ago with updates to various rooms in their home. The architects embarked on a comprehensive overhaul, instilling a sense of timeless elegance right from the entryway, marked by traditional staircase designs, narrow plank flooring, and oversized baseboards. To maintain historical accuracy and charm, the original leaded windows were meticulously replicated.
The design strategy extends throughout the home, with a palette that includes natural wood finishes, warm metallics, and a spectrum from oyster white to charcoal black. In the kitchen, which caters to a family of seven, veined marble in contrasting colors and textures was strategically used to enhance functionality while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Lighter marbles accentuate the walls and workspaces, whereas darker stones are utilized in the dining areas. The staircase features a brass railing with a smooth finish, evoking a vintage feel. Having become intimately familiar with the property over the years, the architects expressed a deep connection to the home’s ongoing transformation.
