ValleyCats unveil new 'Collar City Cats' uniforms

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Tri-City ValleyCats will honor Troy's industrial and baseball history by debuting their new Collar City Cats alternate uniforms. The team will debut the jersey on June 18 and wear them on July 12 and August 10.

The jerseys are cream-colored and sport green lettering on the chest with green numbers on the back. The "Collar City Cats" logo has interlocking collars with an alternate mark including an iron to pay tribute to the city's heritage.

According to the ValleyCats' Media Relations Coordinator and Broadcaster Adam Cohen, Troy is home to the "detachable collar" and the "bishop collar," both central during the Industrial Revolution. At the turn of the 20th century, 15,000 people worked in the collar industry in Troy, and 90% of collars in the U.S. came from Troy at the time.

The Troy Haymakers (1871-1872) and Troy Trojans (1879-1882) came to the City in the late 19th century. Per Cohen, the lineage of the San Francisco Giants can be traced back to the Trojans. The Giants brought back their 2010 World Series trophy to Joe Bruno Stadium to celebrate its history in 2011.
