Woman charged with ramming stolen car into San Pablo detective who then shot at her

The detective, Joshua Hearn, was hospitalized with injuries after the stolen car reversed into his legs.

SAN PABLO — A 24-year-old Rodeo woman has been charged with reversing a stolen vehicle into a San Pablo police detective who fired his pistol into the car’s windshield but didn’t hit anyone, court records show.

The defendant, Daelanni Turner, was charged with five felonies and two misdemeanors, including assault on a peace officer, hit and run, and two counts related to two police chases that occurred during the hectic Feb. 23 incident. She’s also charged with giving false information to officers when she was arrested last April.

Turner was held to answer at a May 20 preliminary hearing, and is next due in court on May 28. She is being held at the West Contra Costa Detention Facility in lieu of $173,000 bail, records show.

Police say that Turner was identified as a suspect through medical paperwork that was found inside the stolen car, after it was abandoned in Oakland on Feb. 27. The officer who was injured and fired at the vehicle was identified in court records as Det. Joshua Hearn.

It all started around 1 p.m. on Feb. 23, when Hearn attempted to pull over a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu that had been reported stolen out of Oakland on Valentine’s Day. The car sped away and Hearn gave chase but lost sight of it shortly thereafter. Another patrol officer located the Chevrolet near 20th Street and Stanford Avenue and resumed the pursuit, police said.

Hearn caught up with the car, and soon he was on one side of it and the other patrol officer was on the other. That’s when authorities allege that Turner accelerated into Hearn, who fired twice into the Chevrolet’s windshield but didn’t hit either Turner or a male passenger, police said.

Hearn was hospitalized with a knee injury, police said. Turner was arrested April 22 and charged two days later. Her trial date has not yet been set.
