NBC Sports Chicago broadcasters spoke for all White Sox fans on this outrageous call that abruptly ended Orioles game

If you’re looking for the worst finish to an MLB game this year, we found it for you.

In the bottom of the ninth in the Chicago White Sox’s home stand against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night, Chicago outfielder Andrew Benintendi hit a fly ball that was ruled out with the infield fly rule, as the ball was caught without issue by Baltimore third baseman Gunnar Henderson.

Rather than Chicago taking its second out of the inning and having one last out to try and either tie the 8-6 game or win it outright, the umpires ruled the game over by saying Chicago first baseman Andrew Vaughn was also out on the play for interference on Henderson as he returned to second base.

The unbelievable two-out sequence gave the Orioles the jarring victory and sent White Sox manager Pedro Grifol out to the diamond to plead his case as to why this was just not the right call.

Replay showed that Vaughn innocently brushed Henderson’s shoulder while heading back to second base and didn’t interfere with the catch in the slightest, as Vaughn didn’t have a great view of Henderson as he was walking back to base. Trying to argue that he was actively interfering with the catch doesn’t make any sense.

NBC Sports Chicago broadcasters John Schriffen and Steve Stone couldn’t believe what they were watching, and they delivered instantly memorable commentary to one of the wackiest MLB calls you’ll see this season.

MLB fans agreed with the broadcasters. This was just an atrocious call.
