Boy, 15, dies after being struck by car on busy road in Manchester as man, 38, arrested in ‘careless driving’ probe

A 15-year-old boy has tragically died after being hit by a car on a busy Manchester road with police arresting a man.

The boy died in hospital yesterday after emergency services rushed to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Oldham on Tuesday night.

Emergency services raced out to Rochdale Road, near the junction with King Street, at around 8.10pm.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving following the collision and has since been released on bail.

Police said the man had been driving a black Seat Ibiza northbound when the collision happened.

Constable Thomas Johnson, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident which has seen a child sadly lose his life, and all of our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the family through every step of the process, and we will keep them updated as and when any information becomes available.

“While we have made an arrest, we are continuing to ask for information as we progress our investigation – if you have anything that you think could help, or witnessed anything, please do get in touch. This includes any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage.”
