“I was so happy single,” she said of the time in her 30s.

On a recent episode of Call Her Daddy, Kate Hudson shared with host Alex Cooper that during her 30s, she took a yearlong break from men. “I was at that place where I was like, ‘I don’t want to keep repeating any patterns anymore,’” said Hudson. “I have a great therapist who was like, ‘I can help you, but you have to do it.’ He’s like, ‘Get off the sauce.’”

Hudson explained that the transition was difficult because she loves to flirt — and that although the process was “strangely empowering,” it was also “very uncomfortable” and “not fun.” But after about six months, she was seeing things “much more clearly.” She also said the experience changed her taste in men. “The guys that normally would’ve been like, ‘Oooh,’ [I] was like, ‘No.’”

Ultimately, said Hudson, after about a year, her therapist gave her permission to flirt again — but she stayed single for another two and a half years. “I was so happy single,” she said. She also said the ways she changed during that time helped lead her to her current relationship, with Danny Fujikawa, whom she initially met when she was 23 and pregnant with her first child and he was a junior in high school, according to People. “He’s such a lovely person. And I would have never, I think, allowed that in if I didn’t take those three years of just being so happy in my life alone.” She’s been with Fujikawa since 2017, meaning her break from dating probably came a few years prior. I guess Kate Hudson walked so Julia Fox could run?
