Schenectady police K9 Derse retires

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Other officers joined a Schenectady Police Department patrolman on Thursday to celebrate the retirement of K9 Derse. Derse and patrolman Doug Smith worked together for narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, building searches, protection, and tracking.

Derse is retiring from a career of crime to be Smith and his family's spoiled pet and enjoy some rest. The police department thanked Derse and Smith for their service of keeping the Schenectady community safe.
