Britain’s Got Talent winner wades into row over international acts and warns ‘they need be careful’
A BRITAIN’S Got Talent winner has joined the debate over international acts participating on the show, warning the producers to “be careful.”
Paul Potts, who won the first ever series of BGT back in 2007, has chimed in after his season saw the show kick off into the huge success it became.
The star was concerned that having too many international acts might take away the British element of the show.
Speaking to Sky Bingo, Paul said: “It’s just a matter of, you have to be careful with the balance to stop it giving the impression it’s not for the British.
“But having said that, I’ve been a guest judge on China’s Got Talent and there were more British acts than there were Chinese. So you know, nobody’s breaking any rules here.
“There’s been a British winner of America’s Got Talent and people from different nations do go to other Got Talents to get their acts seen and it gives them exposure so you know.
“I think we just got to be careful about balance so that we don’t give the impression that it’s not for British talent, which of course it is. It’s all down to what’s shown and because a lot more acts audition than we end up seeing because there just isn’t time.”
The Messoudi Brothers, on this years show, previously appeared on the sixth season of Arabs Got Talent.
Advancing to the next round, the trio has a good chance of securing the £250,000 cash prize and performing at the Royal Variety Show, despite having already done so before.
They entertained the royals at the annual performance alongside their father in 2021.
In 2019, they appeared on Arab’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, and Tu Si Que Vales in Italy in 2019 – making it to the finals before having to withdraw.
The next year they appeared on Das Supertalent, the German version of the show, getting the judges Golden Buzzer and making it to the final.
By the end of that year they also appeared on the French iteration of the show, La France a un incroyable talent.
In 2022, they appeared in Australia’s Got Talent, and in 2023 they appeared in Spain’s Got Talent: All Stars.
A few disgruntled fans shared their frustrations on Twitter on Saturday night.
One said: “The Messoudi Brothers have been on America’s Got Talent and they blatantly say that they are part of the Got Talent Franchise on their Instagram page……so there we have it – proof that the acts do the rounds worldwide….”
Another tweeted during their audition: “Alesha said I know these guys”
