After her debut single failed to impact worldwide charts, she rose to prominence a year later in 1977 with album The World Starts Tonight.

Her single It’s a Heartache, released in the same year, reached number four on the UK Singles Chart and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Her biggest hit, Total Eclipse of the Heart, originated in her 1983 album Faster Than the Speed of Night.

She re-recorded the song in 2003 with Kareen Antonn and their bilingual duet topped French charts.

In 2013, Bonnie represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest and finished 19th.

Speaking to the BBC, Bonnie shared how in the early days of her career, she tried to sound less Welsh while speaking.

This included having to take elocution lessons and being “frightened to speak between songs” due to her accent.

Although Bonnie had wanted to soften her accent, she proved unable to do so.

Bonnie shared: “It’s a bit like Tom Jones I suppose… he’s lived in America since God-knows-when until recently, and he’s still got his Welsh accent.”

She has been married to property developer and judoka Robert Sullivan since 1973.

The couple have owned farmland in both New Zealand and Portugal.

In addition to converting their New Zealand farmland into a dairy farm, the couple have also owned a mineral quarry in Wales.

Everything you need to know about Eurovision

Previously, Bonnie credited her age-defying looks to botox while also vowing never to retire.

The 80s legend revealed on This Morning: “I’ve been having Botox twice a year, for many years, darling.

“I haven’t had the opportunity since the Christmas before last. But I’m doing all right. I’m quite fit for my age, thank God.

“And I’m never going to retire. I look at Tom Jones. He’s amazing. His voice is as strong as ever — and he’s got ten years on me.”
