the capitol building is technically in fair territory. a 1.2 mile homer could land on the dome.

Last night’s game may not have been the best, but today is a new day, and it’s LoGi day at that. Plus the Nats are wearing their excellent city connects, so that will be fun to look at, at least.

Lineups:

Both Mitches are getting the day off, with Big Thunder! Nuke Raley! filling the spot in right, and Dom Canzone being tapped as the designated hitter. J.P. is leading off as usual, fresh off hitting his first leadoff homer of the year, and 7th since the start of 2023 (5th most in MLB).

For the Nats, it’s the same lineup that put six runs on the board last night, with Trevor Williams getting the start. Williams came out this year with a new sweeper that has instantly become his best pitch, with an over 40% whiff rate. The M’s will have to jump all over his (pretty bad) fastball when they get it.

Game Information:

Game Time: 1:05pm PT

Today in Mariners History:

  • 1989 - The Mariners acquire pitchers Randy Johnson, Brian Holman and Gene Harris from the Expos for pitchers Mark Langston and a PTBNL(Mike Campbell).
  • 1991 - Ken Griffey Jr. makes one of his career best catches of a drive off the bat of Ruben Sierra at the Kingdome. Ranging to right-center he back-hands the line drive at full speed before crashing feet first into the wall.
  • 2005 - In a game against the Orioles, the Mariners battery consists of a pair of 42-year olds as Jamie Moyer throws to backstop Pat Borders. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it marks the first time in major league history that two players 42 years or older have been the starting pitcher and catcher for a team.
