Exclusive: Incoming Barcelona manager appreciates Bayern Munich star, says transfer expert
Transfer news expert and CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano has provided some insight into Barcelona potentially looking to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich under incoming new manager Hansi Flick.
Kimmich played under Flick when he was Bayern manager a few years ago, and now Romano admits that the German tactician is an admirer of his fellow countryman, though it might still be a bit early to be discussing Barcelona transfers as Flick and Deco have not yet had meetings about targets.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that while he’s ware of Kimmich to Barcelona links, he’s not yet aware of anything concrete as Flick and Barca director Deco have not spoken about potential signings just yet.
Flick has not yet been officially announced as Xavi’s replacement, but Romano’s understanding is that a deal is in place for the 59-year-old to take over at the Nou Camp on a deal until 2026.
Kimmich transfer could be ideal for Flick’s Barcelona
Once it’s all official, it will be interesting to see who the club go after in the transfer market, with Kimmich perhaps ideal to help Flick implement his style of play.
“With Hansi Flick appointed Barcelona manager we’re seeing Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich linked with Barca,” Romano said.
“However, Deco and Flick haven’t discussed targets yet. It will be in the next weeks. Kimmich for sure is appreciated by Flick, he knows him well, but before discussing targets Barca need to fully understand about their Financial Fair Play situation for this summer.”
Kimmich is approaching the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, which could make him a relatively cheap option for Barcelona, but the Catalan giants have long had financial problems that could limit what they can do without selling players first.
