In Home Bargains savvy shoppers spotted Acer plants in store for just £3.79.

With their beautiful foliage, graceful habitat, and vibrant autumn colours, Acer plants are a great option for patios and balconies.

Commonly known as Japanese Maple, acers are just one of the wide range of ornamental and fruit trees – the plants are easy to care for.

One shopper recently posted a snap of the flora on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group after they bought several from their local branch.

The bargain hunter said: “Huge rhodi & 5 x 50 cm Acer great bargain.”

One shopper said: “Lucky.”

“I bought three today,” said another user.

A third user said: “I got an Acer for Home Bargains a few years ago it was about £2 only tiny and on its last legs and it’s growing absolutely lovely now.”

Anyone keen to snap up one of the Acer plants will have to see if their local Home Bargains branch has any as they are not available on the retailer’s website.

It might be worth calling ahead to see if they have any in stock.

Remember you can find your nearest Home Bargains store by using the store locator tool on its website.

Of course, whenever buying something like this remember to shop around to see if you are getting the best deal.

You can use websites like Price Spy that let you compare prices on thousands of products.

A quick scan using the Google Shopping/Product tab will bring up how much retailers are selling a particular item for as well.

Factor in extra costs like delivery fees which might make a product more expensive than another overall too.

We had a quick online to see if any other stores are selling flamingo plants for less than £4 each, but we couldn’t find any.

Wilko does some slightly larger 3L Acer plants for £27 and they do come with a pot.

Meanwhile, B&Q sells three Acer trees for £21.99 which works out to about £7.33 each.

How to find gardening bargains

Doing up your garden to enjoy on warm and sunny days needn't cost the earth.

Sun Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to get a top deal on items for the garden…

You can bag big savings on plants, shrubs and flowers, as well as gardening tools and furniture.

Many retailers have flash sales across entire seasonal ranges – often these promotions tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout.

Sign up to mailing lists of your favourite brands and you’ll be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

Use a price comparison site to search out the best value items.

And keep a close eye on the specialbuys at Aldi and middle of Lidl drops which drop a couple of times a week and usually mean great value seasonal items for your outdoor areas.

If you are not in a hurry to buy an item, try adding it to the shopping cart online and leaving it for a couple of days.

Sometimes big brands will try to tempt you into the sale by offering you a discount.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying.

It’s especially worth using sites such as Topcashback, Quidco and app Jamdoughnut when buying bigger ticket items such as garden furniture as you’ll get a nice kickback.
