I bought a house with ‘dead sod, clay, & sadness’ – it’s not the worst lawn on the block any longer thanks to my method
A HOMEOWNER has dished the details on how they spruced up their lawn.
After purchasing the abode, they noticed the shabby condition of the yard.
A Redditor has given the 411 on how they transformed their dreary lawn[/caption]Redditor Airgo1 shared the changes they made in a post on the social media platform.
They said they bought the home when it was practically new, but weren’t too happy about the state of the landscaping.
They described it as “dead sod, clay, and sadness.”
“I bought a new construction house a couple years ago, previous owner had lived there a year,” they said.
“You all know the routine these builders do — strip the top soil and throw sod over yard debris and clay.”
LAWN GONE
The Redditor included pictures of the yard, which was clearly dead on arrival.
Determined to revive the lawn, they executed a plan to get some green back.
“After two years the lawn is getting to where I want it,” they said.
“[This happened] after figuring out grubs were killing whatever seed grew.
“This spring I started seeding United Seeds’ Avenger III Fescue.
“It still has a ways to go, but at least it’s not the worst lawn on the block any longer.”
United Seeds’ Avenger III Fescue is sold for $52.50.
GREAT OUTDOORS
There was a clear difference between the yard’s initial brown, patchy appearance and the current state of its bold, green grass.
Several Redditors commented on the new look.
“Thank you from all the neighbors that care about their investment,” one wrote.
“Lucky, you get to start from scratch,” another added.
“Excellent,” a third commented on the lawn.
“I did something similar to our townhome backyard. It was all rocks and mostly clay dirt.
“I still complain about it. Lol.”
The original poster specified that the yard was like working with a “clay desert.”
“I still have clover mixed in the back yard, when I was just trying to get some coverage over the dirt the first year,” they said.
