Cleaning pro reveals 5 neglected items in your home that get filthy – yes, you’re missing a spot in your bathroom
A CLEANING expert has revealed the common household items and areas that even the most thorough cleaners will often miss.
The overlooked (and often filthy) spots in your home may require special attention.

He explained that although people tend to miss a few household items when tidying up, cleaning them takes only five minutes.
One commonly missed kitchen item is the toaster tray.
“Before you begin cleaning your toaster, make sure it’s unplugged!” Dimitrov warned.
“Use a clean, dry toothbrush to clean in and around the bread slots to dislodge any big crumbs.
“Then, empty out the crumb tray and give it a quick wash with washing-up liquid to get rid of any sticky spots.
“Once it’s bone-dry, insert it back into the toaster and shake the whole appliance out over a bin or sink to make sure you get rid of every last crumb.
“Give the outer side of the toaster a quick sponge, and it should be back to looking brand new.”
Other kitchen spots that may need special attention include sauce and spice shelves and the inside of the cutlery drawer.
“I would recommend giving the storage areas of your condiments a thorough clean with surface cleaner and a damp cloth every two weeks to ensure that dirt and grime don’t fester away in hidden areas,” Dimitrov said.
“Make sure that the shelves are completely dry before you add your bottles and tubs back in to prevent any stickiness.”
The cutlery drawer, he added, should be deep-cleaned every few weeks with a cloth and surface cleaner.
A pro tip is to place a small bowl of baking soda in the drawer to remove odor and keep it smelling fresh between cleans.
He revealed that a bathroom victim is a tool that’s always used for cleaning but is never itself cleaned.

“Toilet brushes are often neglected, but they do need to be cleaned regularly,” he said.
“Fill your toilet brush container with hot, soapy water and a few drops of bleach. Swirl the brush around in the water and let it soak for one minute before emptying the water down the toilet.
“Then, flush clean water over the brush and spray both the container and brush with a disinfectant spray.”
While homeowners may not expect laundry machines to be dirty, Dimitrov explained that washers and dryers can accumulate grime over time, improving their performance.
“For maximum efficiency, it’s a good idea to clean out your washing machine and dryer after each cycle,” he said.
“A lot of lint and hair can accumulate from just one load, hindering your machine from properly drying big and dense items. To clean out your washing machine filter remove any debris or lint buildup, and then rinse it under running water.
“For your dryer, clean the lint trap after every use by removing lint with your hand or a brush and periodically vacuuming the area around [it] to prevent blockages and maintain airflow.”
