Doue has emerged as one of the best young talents in Ligue 1 over the past 18 months, with the youngster establishing himself as a key part of the Rennes midfield in the season just gone.

Tottenham’s interest in the teenager first came to light a couple of days ago when journalist Abdellah Boulma stated that the Lilywhites were one of several clubs to express an interest in the midfielder.

Rennes make Desire Doue stance clear

The Mail have now backed up Spurs’ interest in Doue and they explain that Ange Postecoglou’s side have competition to contend with from both Arsenal and Man Utd for the 18-year-old.

Further, they point out that the likes of Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have also made enquiries for the France Under-21 international.

The publication adds that Rennes are reluctant to let their academy graduate leave and have asked interested clubs to pay more than £35m for the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

£35m is a steep fee for a player who has essentially just had one good season at Ligue 1 level. It remains to be seen if any club would be willing to pay that kind of fee for raw potential.
