Kate Middleton and Prince William have been married for over a decade already. They are now parents to three adorable children — Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3. However, way back then, the future king was unsure about his future with Middleton leading them to split multiple times in the past and the Queen wasn't happy about it.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dated for over five years before they got engaged and got married. Unlike Prince Harry, Prince William took his time before he proposed to his then-girlfriend.

Also, things were not easy for the future king and queen when they were still boyfriend and girlfriend. Prince William and Middleton had an on-again, off-again relationship back then. They split twice, in 2004 and 2007.

According to royal expert and author Katie Nicholl, the royal couple's brief split in 2007 left the Queen "disappointed," Express reported. Nicholl explained that the second in line to the throne was having second thoughts about his relationship with Middleton at the time.

He sat down with his father Prince Charles and grandmother Queen Elizabeth for a frank discussion about his future with Middleton. Both gave him the same advice — "not to hurry into anything." Although the Queen did not force Prince William to commit, she wasn't happy about the separation.

How Did The Split Affect Prince William And Kate Middleton?

Prince William and Kate Middleton opened up about their brief separation in their engagement interview in 2010. During the interview, the duke warned the public to not believe in everything they read on tabloids but confirmed that they indeed split in 2007. According to him, they were both very young at the time and were finding themselves. He added that they were different characters at the time."It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up, and so it was just sort of a bit of space and a bit of things like that and it worked out for the better," Prince William said.

Middleton, on her part, said she wasn't glad about the split and shared the positive side that the brief breakup brought into her life.

"And I think I at the time wasn't very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person," she said.Queen Elizabeth II will miss a few members of royal family these holidays. Her husband, Prince Philip, passed away in April. In addition, her grandson, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, will not fly to the U.K. for Christmas.

Queen Elizabeth And Prince Harry Will Not Spend The Holidays Together

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to fly to the U.K. for the holidays even if they know that it will be the first Christmas without Prince Philip. Also, the Queen recently had a health scare and would want everyone around for the holidaysThe Queen invited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to join them in Sandringham over the holidays. However, Prince Harry and Markle will not be there, according to multiple sources.

"There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff knows that Harry and Meghan are not coming," an unnamed royal source told Page Six. "They were, they would have communicated it to their family by now."

The insider added that it's the Queen's first Christmas without her husband. So, everyone was expecting that the Sussexes would be around.

Royal expert British journalist Jonathan Sacerdoti also believed that it would be unlikely that all the members of the royal family would be together on Christmas and New Year's Day. He weighed in on the chances of Prince Harry and Markle flying to the U.K. for holidays and said chances are slim it would happen.

"It’s perhaps unlikely that they’re going to be spending what we would think of as quality family time together at Christmas and New Years and birthdays," Sacerdoti told Us Weekly.

When Will Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Return To The U.K.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry haven't returned to the U.K. together after they left their royal duties. The Duke of Sussex returned to his home country twice without his wife.Prince Harry returned in April for Prince Philip's funeral. He also returned in June for the unveiling of his mom Princess Diana's statue.

Markle couldn't join him on both trips because he was still pregnant with their second child. Royal commentator Robert Jobson, author of "Prince Philip’s Century: The Extraordinary Life of the Duke of Edinburgh," believed that the duchess might never return to the U.K.

However, Page Six's royal source also said that it wouldn't be best for them to return for the first time together on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee because they might steal Her Majesty's thunder.

It remains unknown when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit his family. However, they might eventually do so because the Queen hasn't met their youngest child yet, baby Lili.

Clarence House made it clear when Prince Charles and Camilla tied the knot that the latter would only be known as princess consort and not queen consort. The palace repeated the same announcement saying "there has been absolutely no change at all" about Camilla's future title.

"Despite the denial, legally Camilla will become Queen Consort upon HM’s death," Proctor said. "The process of trying to change the legal title of the wife of a king would be a constitutional mess."

James Brooke also agreed that Camilla would be the next queen, even if many were skeptical about it.

Regardless if Camilla will be the next queen or not, another expert said it would not matter. The duchess is reportedly not interested in the role but will support Prince Charles as the next monarch.

"Many years have passed now, she is only going to be Princess Consort. She’s not going to be Queen as was discussed when she married Charles," said Angela Mollard when she appeared on New Idea’s "ROYALS" podcast.
