The Mets did it! They won a baseball game!

Francisco Lindor called a team meeting after Wednesday’s game and later led the Mets to a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a key RBI single that tied the game in the seventh inning. J.D. Martinez went on to hit a go-ahead solo shot in the eighth that ultimately made up the difference in a 3-2 contest. Most importantly, Reed Garrett came in and got the save, breaking the cycle of Mets relievers falling apart when they were needed the most. A good night in Metsville – and now they need to repeat it again tonight.

Luis Severino has made 10 starts this season, throwing 58 2/3 innings with a 3.22 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 1.159 WHIP and a 118 ERA+. He’s coming off of a spectacular start against the San Francisco Giants, during which he allowed one run over seven innings on two hits and three walks while striking out six. Severino has excelled at both limiting exit velocity this season (average of 87.2 mph) and getting a lot of ground balls (52.1%). The Diamondbacks have the following career numbers against him:

Over seven starts and 40 1/3 innings this year, Montgomery has a 4.69 ERA, 4.11 FIP, 1.413 WHIP and an 85 ERA+. Montgomery is coming off of a solid start against the Miami Marlins where he allowed nine hits over six innings of work, which translated into only two earned runs. In general, Montgomery is allowing a lot of hits this year, with his lowest total allowed in a single outing thus far being four. He’s also allowed seven or more hits in four of his seven starts this season. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:

  • Pete Alonso 1-6, 2B, 3 BB, 4 K

Game Notes

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported that reliever Shintaro Fujinami will be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks with a shoulder injury. The 30-year-old right-hander signed a one-year, $3.35 million deal with an additional $850,000 available in performance incentives for games pitched. Fujinami has yet to appear in a major league game for the Mets while posting a 14.09 ERA over nine games with Triple-A Syracuse this season.

The Mets announced several roster moves prior to Friday’s contest. Christian Scott and Brett Baty were optioned to Triple-A while the club selected José Iglesias and recalled Dedniel Núñez as the corresponding transactions. Additionally, New York designated Omar Narváez for assignment and acquired Luis Torrens from the New York Yankees, whom they placed on the active roster.

Three Things To Watch For

  1. Francisco Lindor: Lindor extended his hitting streak to nine games on Thursday in a huge way by going 4-for-4 at the plate. Over his last nine contests, he has gone 15-for-40 with six extra-base hits while slashing .375/.405/.625. His batting average has gone from .193 to .225 and his OBP from .268 to .291 over this stretch.
  2. Can Marte do it three games in a row? Marte has collected two hits in each of his last two games, all of which were singles. He has yet to score during that run despite getting on base a total of five times, which says more about the offense as a whole than anything else.
  3. Limiting Walks. The Mets are at their worst when they walk a ton of batters as it puts them in constant danger and eats through their bullpen. On Thursday, however, the Mets only walked three Arizona batters, which were scattered across three different innings (although I’ll admit the leadoff walk in the ninth caused some agita). This is a recipe for success!

Let’s go Mets!
