The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that U.S. forces destroyed a Houthi drone supported by Iran over the Gulf of Aden and three more over the Red Sea on Friday.

CENTCOM stated that these drones were identified as an “imminent threat to U.S., coalition forces, and commercial shipping in the region.”

These incidents occurred after the Houthis claimed that joint U.S. and British airstrikes had killed at least 16 civilians and injured 42 others.

Three American officials mentioned that these airstrikes targeted underground facilities, missile launchers, command centers, a ship, and other Houthi installations.

The officials indicated that the airstrikes were a response to recent Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

However, the Houthis stated on Friday that these attacks hit the Hodeidah radio building and civilian homes in the port city by the Red Sea.

In recent months, the Houthis have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea as part of their solidarity actions with Palestine in the conflict with Israel.

In response to these attacks, the U.S. and the UK, with non-operational support from some allies, have repeatedly targeted the Houthis in Yemen.
