Local Taliban officials reported that a boat capsized in the sea in Nangarhar early Saturday morning, resulting in the deaths of 20 people.

The governor’s office in Nangarhar stated that the bodies of 5 victims have been recovered so far. The boat was said to be carrying 25 people, including women and children.

The media office of the Taliban governor in Nangarhar wrote in a statement that this “generator boat” sank around 7:30 AM on Saturday.

According to the report, the deceased include women and children. It also added that the incident occurred in the “Basal” area of Mohmand Dara district.

It is said that the boat had 25 passengers, and the Taliban stated that five passengers of the boat were rescued.

Officials have so far reported the discovery of five bodies and state that the search for the remaining bodies is ongoing.

The statement added that emergency aid teams from the Taliban’s Ministry of Health and other officials have been dispatched to the scene of the accident to search for the victims’ bodies.
