Hogan campaign says candidate has accepted 2 debates in US Senate race against Alsobrooks

Neither debate has been agreed upon by both candidates.

Larry Hogan’s campaign said Friday that the Republican former governor has accepted two debates in his U.S. Senate race against Democrat Angela Alsobrooks.

Neither debate has been agreed upon by both candidates.

“Angela Alsobrooks looks forward to debating Larry Hogan in the fall,” said Connor Lounsbury, an Alsobrooks senior campaign adviser. He said debate plans had not been finalized.

In a news release, Hogan’s campaign said he has accepted an Oct. 10 debate that would be hosted by The Baltimore Sun, FOX45, WJLA, and the University of Baltimore.

The release said a second debate was to be hosted by WUSA9, Maryland Public Television, WJZ, and WBOC “on a date to be finalized.”

It could not immediately be determined whether other debates may be in the works.

Hogan and Alsobrooks, the Prince George’s County executive, are vying for the seat being left open by the retirement of Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin after this year.

The race will help determine which party controls the Senate.

Democrats hold a 51-49 U.S. Senate majority and must defend a handful of seats in November in states that Democratic President Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020.
