CT judge sentences 65-year-old man to 19 years for sexually assaulting girl starting at age 7

A Connecticut man was sentenced to 19 years in prison on for sexually assaulting a young girl at his home over a four-year period.

A Connecticut man was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Friday for sexually assaulting a young girl at his home over a four-year period, officials said.

Michael R. Mansfield, 65, of Winchester was sentenced by Judge Jason M. Lobo to 25 years in prison, execution suspended after 19 years served, followed by 15 years of probation, according to Litchfield Judicial District State’s Attorney David R. Shannon. He also was ordered to register with the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry.

Mansfield was convicted one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of fourth-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. A Superior Court jury reached the verdict on March 27, 2024, in under two hours following a three-day trial, the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice said in a release on Friday.

According to court records, Mansfield sexually assaulted a female victim at his home in Winsted between 2012 and 2016 while the victim was between the ages of 7 and 11.

“State’s Attorney Shannon would like to thank the Winchester Police Department, The Child Abuse Investigation Team at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Department of Children and Families for their work and dedication in this investigation,” the DCJ said in a release on Friday.
