CT man gets 20 years for 2019 shooting that targeted his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend

A Connecticut man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday for orchestrating a 2019 shooting in New London in an attempt to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, officials said.

Shaquan Lee-Seales, formerly of New London, was sentenced by Judge Shari A. Murphy. On Feb. 20, a New London Superior Court jury found him guilty of two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of accessory to attempted murder, risk of injury to a minor and inciting injury to persons, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Court records showed that three individuals, identified as Bless Seales, Sakye Reels and Kion Wilbur, reportedly covered their faces while walking in the area of Third Avenue in New London on Nov. 24, 2019, as one of them approached a building at 168 Third Ave.

That individual suddenly turned and ran as a surveillance camera caught a crack in the second-floor, street-side window of the building, according to court records.

The New London Police Department dispatch received a 911 call for a shot-fired at that residence, and officers reportedly found the broken window and a projectile resting on a closet shelf, court records show.

Lee-Seales, who was in prison on an unrelated matter, had been placed on phone and mail review. A review of his phone conversations and written correspondence reportedly showed that he had orchestrated the shooting in an attempt to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, according to court records.

The 20-year sentence will run consecutively to the prison sentence that Lee-Seales is currently serving, the DCJ said.

“The State believes the sentence reflects the serious and shocking nature of Mr. Seales’ conduct,” said Paul J. Narducci, State’s Attorney for the New London Judicial District.
