Forgotten Liverpool star demands summer transfer and accuses club of ‘wanting to hinder my future’ with asking price

LIVERPOOL star Sepp van den Berg has accused the club of “hindering” his career.

The defender appeared to blame the Reds for pricing him out of a transfer away from Anfield.

Van den Berg, 22, wants to leave Merseyside this summer – five years after joining from Dutch side PEC Zwolle.

He has been loaned out three times to Preston, Schalke and Mainz.

And his performances while away from Liverpool have seen him attract interest from the likes of Brentford and Southampton.

Arne Slot‘s side are reportedly holding out for £20m after he helped Mainz steer clear of Bundesliga relegation.

But Liverpool‘s demands and his many loan spells have seemingly annoyed Van den Berg.

He told De Telegraaf: “You’re central to the defence in training against the starting XI, you have to build up and then Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah come running towards you.

“It was tough, I enjoyed it. But in all honesty, I wasn’t looked after anymore.

“I felt ‘ready’ [in 2021]. I had a good conversation with the management. He said he had received good reports.

“I understood that I wasn’t going to play Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip or Ibrahima Konate out the team. But I thought I could be right behind it.

“When I didn’t get a chance again, I said: ‘Figure it out, I want to leave.’

“You (Liverpool) didn’t exude confidence in me all this time, but you do want to hinder my future.

“I want to keep playing every week and develop myself further.

“In Germany, I enjoy Dortmund away with 70,000 people, Bayern Munich away against Harry Kane, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Leverkusen, against clubs like that I am challenged every week.”

Van den Berg has played just four times for Liverpool, with all his appearances coming in either the Carabao or FA Cup during the 2019/20 season.

Arne Slot's record is WORSE than Erik ten Hag's

ARNE SLOT is set to be tasked with a near-impossible job – replacing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Should he swap the Eredivisie for the Premier League, Slot will follow in the footsteps of fellow follically-challenged Dutchman Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag left Ajax to become Manchester United manager in 2022.

But he has suffered a nightmare spell at Old Trafford and appears to be a dead-man walking despite making the FA Cup final.

With Slot seemingly destined for Anfield, fans won’t be able to help but compare his record in Holland with Ten Hag’s.

And Reds supporters won’t like what they see.
