Fans say ‘this is peak levels of League Two’ as Gillingham unveil new transfer outside of Costa Coffee

FOOTBALL fans were loving Gillingham’s announcement of new signing Armani Little after they unveiled him outside Costa Coffee on the town’s high street.

The League Two side finished the campaign safely in mid-table in 12th place, six points adrift of the play-off spots.

But they have wasted little time in the transfer market, signing midfielder Little, 27, after he rejected an offer to extend his stay with Wimbledon.

However, the way he was presented to the Gillingham faithful – alongside defender Sharach Ogie – was unexpected to say the least.

Instead of a press conference or tweet, the club took him to Gillingham high street.

And the announcer said: “We didn’t have any good ideas and we went ‘Sod it, let’s go to Gillingham high street and just invite people to come and see it’ thinking we’ll put it out on Twitter and 10 or 15 people might rock up.”

A sizeable crowd showed up for both the unveiling of Little and the club’s third kit for the 2024/25 season.

They were stood right outside the local Costa as Little made his way in front of the fans while wearing the new jersey.

He then posed for photos with fans as those on social media hailed the unorthodox transfer announcement.

One said: “Announcing their big new signing outside a Costa Coffee in the pouring rain. This is absolutely peak levels of Sky Bet League 2™. ????

Another added: “Listen. Supporters criticise clubs when they distance themselves from them. This is brilliant in my eyes. Stripping it back and getting amongst the supporters. Lets not knock the idea behind it.”

A third replied: “They pushed the boat out, mascot and a microphone, they know how to sell this to the crowd.”

While a fourth responded: “Love it ???????? why do the Prem fans get all the new signing razzamataz?”

And a fifth joked: “David Brent on the?????”

Little has played for Oxford, Woking, Torquay, Forest Green and Wimbledon since leaving Southampton‘s academy.

After his loan spell turned into a permanent move at Wimbledon, he scored four goals in 44 games last season and laid on five assists.
