Charlotte FC ends May with a 3-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls

Charlotte FC’s five match unbeaten streak has come to an end following a 3-1 loss on the road against the New York Red Bulls.

The match was a story of two halves. Charlotte played well in the first half as both teams seemed evenly matched with Charlotte having possession for 55 percent of the half and each team having four shots in the half.

After a lengthy halftime due to a weather delay the second half kicked off. New York seemed like the better team in the second half, scoring their first goal of the match in the 74th minute on a free kick from Emil Forsberg and adding a second in the 76th minute. New York scored their third and final goal in the 83rd minute.

Charlotte scored their only goal in the 96th minute from Ben Bender, making his season debut. The goal was Bender’s seventh career goal and his fourth against New York.

With the first half being relatively evenly matched, Charlotte FC finished the match with a slight advantage in possession but had six fewer shots and two fewer shots on target than New York. New York had 11 shots in the second half after just four in the first half.

Charlotte FC will look to bounce back in their next match on the road against Atlanta United on Sunday, June 2. Kickoff against Atlanta United is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. EST, being broadcast on Apple TV and FOX.
