The last thing anyone wants when jetting off is for their suitcase to be damaged during the journey or worse – lost.

And while you my think your luggage being left at Manchester Airport or Heathrow instead of being in your sunny destination with you, at least you could retrieve it when you’re home.

But if your outfits are wrecked, there’s not much you can do.

One air hostess has revealed the careless things passengers do which could ruin accessories, shoes, tops, shorts or electrical items.

Cher Dallas, who has been in the aviation industry for five years, called the act “heinous, evil and diabolical”.

She said: “Putting your water bottle that has liquid in it in the overhead bin, or any type of bottle that has liquid in it, is one of the most heinous, evil, diabolical things you can do on a plane.

“I think it’s tempting to do this if it’s in like the outer pocket of your backpack.

“But every single time, without fail, as soon as we take off that water bottle is going to leak.

“Not only does that soak everybody else’s bags but the water always picks one person and it will follow a stream and completely dump out of the overhead locker onto that person.”

The seasoned flyer also recommended to avoid travelling if you’re feeling poorly and to not go to the bathroom during turbulence.

It comes after one travel expert revealed the best way to fill up your hand luggage so you don’t have to pay for a huge case.

One Bag Travels on YouTube said: “Stick to synthetics and avoid cotton. They are lightweight strong and more versatile.

“A good rule of thumb is to pack enough toiletries for a week, then plan on refilling on the go, especially for ‘easy to get’ items like soap, shampoo and deodorant.”

Other luggage tips

TRAVELLING experts have suggested the following to help make travelling and packing as easy as possible:

  • Wear your biggest and heaviest items of clothing on the plane.
  • Fold your clothes using the roll-up method or flat pack.
  • If you can wash your clothes while on holiday, don’t pack as many.
  • Scale back on toiletries – buy them at the airport or abroad if you can.
  • Only pack the essentials. Don’t take more than you need.
