Rebuilding a flood-ravaged town: Thoothukudi

The rain-induced floods, ahead of Christmas last year, caused extensive damage in the district. Apart from the loss of properties, farmers suffered a heavy loss, with the crops on 1,48,037 hectares damaged in 12 blocks. Farmers say the compensation was not commensurate with their loss. The damage to the infrastructure was very severe. Some of the huge structures, such as Eral Bridge and Authoor Bridge across the Thamirabarani, have been rendered unusable. They are yet to be restored
