I got my engagement ring & wedding dress from an unclaimed baggage sale – you’d never know, it looked so expensive
A FLIGHT attendant has revealed that she got her engagement ring and wedding dress for a bargain price from an unclaimed baggage sale.
Stephanie is a self-proclaimed “extreme cheapskate” and goes to great lengths to save cash, for example turning off the electricity when she is not in the house and eating leftover aeroplane food for her dinner.

And the savvy saver was no different when it came to her wedding, deciding to buy both her dress and engagement ring from an unclaimed baggage sale.
When luggage gets lost during flights, oftentimes it is never claimed.
The items inside the unclaimed suitcases are then sold off on the cheap.
Stephanie managed to find an engagement ring for just £156 from the unclaimed luggage sale, far cheaper than it would have been in a regular shop.
The bargain hunter also nabbed a tuxedo for her husband for less than £50 and a wedding dress for just £38.
To save extra pennies the couple even got married in the unclaimed baggage centre, as two of the staff there happened to be engaged.
Speaking to TLC‘s Extreme Cheapskates, Stephanie’s husband Jimmy said: “It’s not what I envisioned for us, but my baby got what she wanted, so I’m happy.”
Stephanie added: “It was just a bargain that was too good to pass up on”.
“For less than $500, we just got married!”
Stephanie’s bargain hunting has sent social media users into a frenzy.
Commenting under a YouTube video of the savvy saver, many people said that her choice of wedding venue was a step too far.
One person said: “Getting married in an unclaimed baggage centre is too much”.
Another person said: “When they got married at the shop it was just so cringey.”
5 ways to save £10k on your wedding
Josie Griffiths, Deputy Digital Fabulous editor and bride-to-be shares her tips to cut the cost on your big day.
“There’s no getting around it, weddings are expensive, but there’s some easy ways to strip back the cost without your guests noticing.”
Ditch pricey invites
We made our designs for free on Canva, and then sent them out on email or WhatsApp. If you want to post invites to important people, VistaPrint is brilliant and cost us less than 30p per guest to sort. SAVING: £600
Cut back on flowers
I was pretty stunned that lots of wedding florists quote £3k-£5k as a MINIMUM spend. Your wedding flowers will be dead within days, save your cash and invest it in pics and video instead, as these actually last. Keep shopping round until you find someone reasonably priced, or speak to your local florist two months out to arrange bouquets. SAVING: £4.5k
Ditch wedding favours
They don’t fit in people’s handbags and were cleared away by catering staff at half the weddings I’ve been to as a guest. The best way to save cash here is just not to bother. SAVING: £300-£700
Be ruthless with your guest list
No one’s ‘entitled’ to a plus one and the groom’s second cousin doesn’t need to come. Your true friends won’t kick off and if anyone chooses not to come over guest list dramas, that just means you’ve saved twice. SAVING: £150 PER HEAD
Do your own booze
Make finding a venue where you can do your own bar a priority, ideally with no corkage or a £500 max cost. Aldi’s £22 Champagne beat Veuve Clicquot in a Which? blind taste test and they have tasty wines for less than a fiver, you won’t do better on a paid bar. SAVING: £2k
A third added: “If you save a lot of money wouldn’t you spend some of it on a nice wedding?”
A fourth said: “Her man seemed so embarrassed!”
