LASUTH HOSTS COMMITTEE OF CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTORS OF STATE TEACHING HOSPITALS IN NIGERIA
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) recently hosted the Committee of Chief Medical Directors of State Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria for its inaugural meeting, a significant event aimed at collaboration and addressing pressing issues in the nation’s healthcare sector.
In his opening address at the event held at the MRC Auditorium in LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, warmly welcomed all Chief Medical Directors representing the six geo-political zones across the country, expressing his enthusiasm about hosting the committee.
The CMD informed members of the committee that Lagos State, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, had just launched one of its Eko Cares projects which include ‘Alafia Eko’, a free medical outreach aimed at providing essential healthcare services to 50, 000 residents.
Fabamwo reiterated the need for the Chief Medical Directors of State Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria to ensure that the Chief Executives of their States plan strategically to invest in healthcare because healthcare requires a lot of money, which will ultimately affect the status of the citizenry. He also encouraged the committee to constitute themselves into a powerful voice that can be reckoned with nationwide.
The event also featured a brief, yet informative tour description of LASUTH by the Director, Clinical Services and Training, Prof. Adebowale O. Adekoya, who highlighted the state-of-the-art facilities available within the hospital, encouraging members of the committee to avail themselves of the structural developments in LASUTH while revealing the hospital’s commitment to excellence in medical education, research, and patient care.
The Chairman of the Committee and the Chief Medical Director of the University Teaching Hospital, Osun State, Prof. Peter Olaitan appreciated the management of LASUTH for the warm reception, support and cooperation. He referred to LASUTH, as one of the first generations of teaching hospitals that has produced numerous excellent doctors over the years and expressed delight over the official inauguration of the committee, stressing that it has been an idea waiting to be hatched for a long time.
The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo was later honoured with an Award of Recognition for his pivotal role, contributions and support towards the initiation of the Committee and the success of the maiden inaugural meeting of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors of State Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria.
