Zhang stops Wilder in Saudi Arabia!
Just moments ago Chinese Heavyweight Zhilei Zhang (27-2-1, 22) scored the biggest win of his career, as he stopped former WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42) in Saudi Arabia.
The bout, on paper, a really well matched one, proved to be something of a mismatch in the ring, with only one of the two fighters actually fighting like the bout meant anything, whilst the other looked like he was there to survive, go through the motions and see if he could last the 12 rounds.
From the off Zhang took the center of the ring, pressed, and pressured, and made the most of his significant weight advantage. Time and time again Wilder would head to the ropes, as if they were to offer some solace, whilst Zhang pressured, backing up his man time and time again, landing the occasional big bomb, but not hurting Wilder, who was simply throwing nothing in return.
As the rounds went on Zhang continued to press, whilst Wilder continued to do very, very little.
In round 5 wilder missed with a right right hand, and took a hard counter right hook return The shot instantly send Wilder stumbling, so much so that he actually turned his back, and seemed to have little idea where he was and that Zhang was right behind him. Zhang, knowing Wilder was hurt, ran behind him and as Wilder turned to face him landed a brutal short right hand, sending Wilder to the canvas. A count ensued, and whilst Wilder was up to his feet before the 10 count, he had no idea where he was, whilst Zhang got to celebrate the biggest and most notable win of his career.
