Bride-to-be, 19, left looking like she’d been ‘bitten by a shark’ when her nipple FELL OFF after £4k ‘impulse’ Turkey op

A BRIDE-to-be who got breast surgery in Turkey is left looking like she’s been ‘bitten by a shark’ after her nipple fell off.

Madison Goodwin, 19, ‘impulse booked’ the op in Istanbul, Turkey, after seeing a delighted friend’s results at the same clinic.

The model and social media influencer spent £4,000 to have breast implants and a breast lift, which involved nipple reconstruction in order to make her ‘big, saggy’ boobs perkier in April.

But days later her nipple turned black and was ‘hanging on by a thread’ before eventually dropping off.

The mum-of-one is now in the care of the NHS and is waiting for her breast to heal so she can get a skin graft and potentially a tattooed nipple before her big day in December.

Madison, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, said: “I wanted to feel I could wear a top, maybe a bit boobier, and they just sit there.

“I wouldn’t have to wear a bra or worry about them slipping out, I wanted them to just sit nicely in every item I could wear and give myself a bit of confidence.

“Now I feel disgusted looking at my boobs.

“[As a model], my job is based off what my body looks like. I’m flying out to Thailand in a week and my bandages are on show.

“I can’t even get a nice picture in a bikini. I know that’s not the be-all and end all but that’s my job – I need to look good in clothes.”

The mum-of-one booked to have the surgery after having a baby in January, who was sadly stillborn, and being unhappy with how her boobs looked.

Madison said: “My boobs felt very saggy and my nipples were really big, they never went back to normal.

“I’m only small and had these big, saggy boobs, I just wanted them quite perky and a bit rounder and bigger.

“At the time I was looking around for surgeons in London but it was £9,000 and I’m saving for a house.

“I didn’t want to be spending silly amounts of money so I just thought about Turkey because someone I knew had gone to that specific surgeon and they were really happy with their results.

“I felt fully trusting and was like ‘I’ll just go out there’ and it was half the price, it was £4,000.

“I’m not going to lie, I didn’t really do much research. It was on quite an impulse.

“I was well excited. My mum booked the flights and we really thought we were going to go out there and, although I knew I’d be healing, we really thought it would be like a mini getaway.”

They took the bandages off the nipple came off, it was just a big bit of skin. I’m assuming where my nipple had come off it opened my stitches below my breast

Madison underwent the two-hour surgery in Turkey on April 30th and after a two-day stay, she returned to her hotel.

During her post-op check-up on May 3rd, Madison claims her right nipple was purple and she heard someone say ‘It was done wrong but I corrected it’ in English, before switching back to Turkish.

After being reassured she would heal in a couple of days, Madison flew home and sent regular pictures to her surgeon.

HANGING BY A THREAD

But 12 days after her surgery, Madison says she was horrified when she changed her bandages and her nipple started to peel off.

She went to Southend University Hospital, in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, on May 12th before being referred to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, the following day.

Madison said: “I was changing the bandages daily because they were getting gunkier and [there was] more blood. When I took the bandage off I could see my nipple was starting to peel off.

“I went to hospital and explained the situation. The doctor took the bandages off really carefully, you could see it was still hanging on by a thread but it didn’t come off fully.

“At that point my nipple had become necrotic and was black in certain places. They sent me to another hospital, when they took the bandages off the nipple came off, it was just a big bit of skin.

“I’m assuming where my nipple had come off it opened my stitches below my breast so then I had an open wound of stitches.

“It genuinely looked like a shark bite, I felt horrible. They kept talking that I’d have to get a skin graft or a nipple tattoo.”

Madison, who had been on antibiotics after surgery, has been referred by her GP to a wound specialist.

She’s now waiting for the rest of the necrotic tissue to drop off and the rest of the wound to heal before she can have a skin graft.

The risks of surgery abroad

IT’S important to do your research if you’re thinking about having cosmetic surgery abroad.

It can cost less than in the UK, but you need to weigh up potential savings against the potential risks.

Safety standards in different countries may not be as high.

No surgery is risk-free. Complications can happen after surgery in the UK or abroad.

If you have complications after an operation in the UK, the surgeon is responsible for providing follow-up treatment.

Overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK.

Also, they may not have a healthcare professional in the UK you can visit if you have any problems.

‘I COULD HAVE DIED’

Madison, now three weeks post-op, said: “There’s only a bit of black necrotic tissue left. They said the nipple won’t heal unless the necrotic tissue either falls off or gets surgically removed.

“No-one wants to touch it so they’re putting things on it to get it to fall off. I’m just waiting to see when it heals.

“Flying back to Turkey for [more] surgery was out of the question, even the hospital said don’t go back to them.

“It’s not necessarily that they did it wrong, the hospital said it’s possibly just your body rejecting it in general [the nipple reconstruction].

“Their point is that the surgeon in Turkey knew it was going bad and still sent me back, so if they’re comfortable doing that then I shouldn’t trust them.”

Warning others, Madison said: “I think if you’re ever going to get any kind of lift that should be done in England, because if I’d left it longer and listened to the surgeon I don’t even know what would have happened.

“They told me at the hospital I could have died if I’d left it longer, it was really, really bad.

“Any girl who wants anything to do with their nipples done, just get it in England because it’s so risky.

“At least if something goes wrong, they’re so on the ball to help you.

“They’ve said it could take six months to heal. My wedding dress is off the shoulder so I’m hoping it will heal beforehand.”
