Jessica Lange Called Out the Frustrating Way Hollywood Still Treats Women of a ‘Certain Age'

Legendary actress Jessica Lange has been in the acting business since she was 26. Now, at 75 years old, she has two Oscar wins under her belt, a bunch of awards, and hit films, as well. She is a Titan in Hollywood, and has seen it all, from the 1970s to today. And now, Lange said in a super-rare interview that Hollywood still hasn’t changed greatly, especially for older actresses and stars.

Lange recently called out the industry in her interview with People, talking about the “idea of what happens to an actress in Hollywood at a certain age.”

“Maybe it was more extreme back then in the ’40s and ’50s and ’60s,” the American Horror Story alum said, when talking about the apparent sexism and ageism that’s very prevalent in the acting industry, “but it certainly hasn’t changed that much.”

Lange believes many actresses of “a certain age” still deserve their flowers after years of hard work.

Now, this isn’t the first time Lange has talked about this issue. In fact, she calls out the industry for it quite a bit. Back in 2017, Lange talked about this frustrating occurrence in Hollywood to AARP.

She said to the outlet how “ageism is pervasive” in Hollywood, adding, “It’s not a level playing field. I think about how few wonderful actresses of my generation are still doing viable, important film work. You go to television. You go to stage.”

We love that Lange is speaking up about this and giving her perspective after literally decades in the controversial industry.
