Gavin and Stacey legend gives major update on comedy’s future ahead of new Christmas special
GAVIN and Stacey will come to an end for a final time this Christmas, says star Joanna Page.
The Welsh actress, 47, believes the new festive special will “100 per cent” be her last in the role of Stacey after 17 years.
But she doesn’t know what’s in store for the characters — with the BBC show’s last outing in 2019 ending with Nessa proposing to Smithy.
Joanna said of reading that script: “I was like, ‘What? Oh my god, where’s the rest?’.”
Of the forthcoming special, she told her Off The Telly podcast: “I mean, there’s so much they could do, isn’t there?
“I’m older now than Mel [Walters] was playing Gwen on the first series.”
Alison Steadman, 77, starred as Gavin’s mum Pam – or “Pamelaaa” as she was known by Smithy, also spoke recently about the upcoming special.
Asked if her character will feature in the one-off festive special, Alison said, “yes!”.
The TV legend revealed it was very early days but insisted: “I know it’s going to happen.
“I just haven’t seen the script – none of us has seen the script.”
