Yilmaz has emerged as one of the most exciting attackers in the Turkish top flight over the last couple of years and looks set to play a key part for the nation in the upcoming Euros this summer.

Baris Alper Yilmaz has impressed for Galatasaray

The versatile attacker, who is capable of playing in either flank or even as a number nine, finished the 2023-24 campaign with seven goals and 12 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

It was reported by HITC back in April that Aston Villa and Tottenham are among the admirers of Galatasaray’s star, who was said to be valued at £22m.

Subsequently, Milliyet reported last month that the Lilywhites and the Villans had been joined in the race for the 24-year-old’s signature by the likes of West Ham United, Juventus, AS Roma and Lille.

Yilmaz has now handed the interested clubs a boost by admitting that he is open to making a move away from Istanbul.

When asked if he harbours a desire to make a big transfer aboard, the winger told TRT Spor: “Of course, I have dreams. As a Turk, I want to represent my country abroad. I do not look into transfer matters at all.

“I am focused on my work. My agent deals with those issues. This is our job. If it happens, what is necessary will be done. (But) I love watching the Premier League.”

Yilmaz’s versatility is perhaps what makes him an appealing target to clubs around the continent. The Turkey international is quite similar to Perisic and could perhaps even be used as a full-back in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Despite bringing Timo Werner back for another season on loan, with Bryan Gil among those set to leave this summer and the club looking to compete both domestically and in Europe there is a need for much better quality of depth in the Tottenham first team squad for the campaign ahead.
