IND Vs PAK, T20 World Cup 2024: What Happens If India Vs Pakistan Gets Washed Out? Is There Any Reserve Day?

New York: Rain will likely play spoilsport on Sunday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium when India take on Pakistan in the marquee T20 World Cup 2024 clash. According to visuals circulating on social media, rain has already started in New York with just less than half an hour left before the toss. Rain was already predicted on the match day with around 40-50 percent chances of downpour. As expected, overcast weather prevailed from the morning in New York before the rain gods opened up around 40 minutes before the start of the toss. The toss is scheduled at 7:30 PM IST.

Although rain is expected to recede around 9 PM IST, thunderstorms are scheduled to take the centre-stage, thus possibly threatening a washout. However, the big question is, what happens if there is a washout or the match gets abandoned due to rain?

According to the tournament rules, there is no reserve day in place for Group stage games and Super 8 matches. In case there is rain, the match can be extended for one and half hours. If the India vs Pakistan match gets washed out or abandoned midway, both teams will get one point each.

The reserve days are being put in place only for the first semifinal and final, both in the Caribbean. The first semifinal will be played in Trinidad at the Brian Lara Stadium on June 26 while Barbados will host the summit clash on June 29. The ICC has added 60 minutes on June 26 if there is rain and 190 minutes on the next day which is a reserve day.

As the second semifinal is concerned on June 27, there is no reserve day in place but 250 added-on minutes if rain plays spoilsport. For the final, a total of 190 minutes have been added on both days (actual day and reserve day).
