I won £1million Euromillions jackpot but my account froze at just £23 – I thought I’d been left with nothing

A MOTOR mechanic who scooped up a £1million jackpot revealed he thought he’d been left with nothing after his account froze with just £23 in it.

Dave Williams, 58, and his wife Sarah, 55, couldn’t believe their luck after they bagged the “life-changing” cash prize.

The mechanic originally thought he’d been left with nothing after he saw his balance hadn’t budged on the lottery app.

He only noticed something was up after he received a message while trying to buy a ticket for the next draw.

“I remember seeing one with news about my ticket but assumed it was for £2.70 or the like so when I logged in to buy a ticket for the next draw, I was expecting to see my balance marginally better off, not stuck at £23,” Dave added.

“It’s only when I clicked on the message that I saw I’d won the £100,000 on EuroMillions which amazingly turned into £1M.”

When Dave told Sarah about the victory, she thought her husband was trying to wind her up.

Sarah said: “But when he showed me the ticket, and now when I see all those noughts in the bank account, I know it’s for real.

“I didn’t think anything could be more exciting than my son and his girlfriend giving us our first grandchild last year, but I think this is coming in a close second.”

The pair’s hearts sank when they were left hanging on a tantalising phone call.

When Dave picked up the phone to ring the National Lottery, he was briefly put on hold.

He claimed that his “heart really sank” at that moment.

But despair turned to delight just seconds later when he was informed that rather than winning £100,000, he’d won a life-changing £1million.

Dave said: “When the gentleman came back on the line to say ‘Mr Williams, you said you’ve won £100,000’ and paused, my heart really sank.

“(But it was) only to leap once more when he continued ‘I’m pleased to tell you, you’ve actually won £1M’.

“I’d always hoped and dreamed I’d win a life-changing amount on The National Lottery.”

Dave couldn’t contain the excitement, “swearing loudly for a good five minutes”.

The Welshman has been house hunting ever since the win and plans on investing a chunk of the winnings into funds for the family’s future.

The pair also hope to explore more of Wales and the rest of the UK in their camper van.

However, they’ll have to put off any overseas destination until Sarah can overcome her fear of flying.

“I’ve always been scared to fly and it’s never been a serious problem, (but) now that the world really is our oyster, it feels like it’s time to do something about it,” she added.

“I didn’t think I would ever overcome my fear of flying, but then I didn’t ever think that Dave would win £1million on EuroMillions.”

It comes after a gran-of-four who thought she’d won a food mixer actually scooped up £250,000 in the Postcode Lottery.

And another grandma who bagged a whopping £640,000 in the lotto jackpot revealed she doesn’t care that the money still hasn’t hit her account.
