While Emerson Royal appears to be heading for the exit door at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, the club will need a new right-back to add to their ranks. Now, it seems they may have found their replacement, with Monaca full-back, Vanderson, linked to Spurs.
After three years at the club, it seems Emerson Royal‘s time in North London is at an end. The Brazilian offered Ange Postecoglou plenty of versatility through the injury crisis of last season, but it is thought the Spurs boss doesn’t think Royal is comfortable with the system he uses (The Athletic).
Emerson Royal could be a summer transfer departure at Tottenham
AC Milan are pushing to sign the 25-year-old and have already held preliminary talks with Royal’s people about a transfer (Gianluca Di Marzio).
Tottenham were originally thought to want €30m (£25.5m) for the Brazilian (Gazzetta dello Sport via Football Italia). However, it is believed Spurs have now dropped that price tag to just €20m (£17.5m), meaning progress has been made on the deal (Gazzetta dello Sport).
Spurs target Monaco player as Royal replacement
Obviously, if and when Royal leaves, Spurs will need a replacement. And, according to UOL, another Brazilian could be on the way to the Lilywhites this summer.
Apparently, Spurs have identified Monaco right-back, Vanderson, as the man to step in. Initial contact is already believed to have been made “behind the scenes” for the 22-year-old.
A lot will depend on Royal moving on, and Monaco are not thought to be in any position where they need to sell, so Spurs may find negotiations tricky.
No formal offer has been made at this time.

Vanderson is a great full-back, and a massive upgrade on Emerson Royal and would be much more suited to the inverted full-back role.
I’m really excited about the idea of certain players moving on this summer and us improving the squad across the board, and Vanderson in, Royal out, would be a really strong start to that process.
