My babies are twins but born months apart – it sounds strange but makes perfect sense to us

A WOMAN has revealed that her children are twins, despite being born months apart.

When Maddie was 16 weeks old, Hannah started feeling unwell.

At first she thought nothing of this, but when the sickness continued, she took a pregnancy test, and realised she was actually seven weeks pregnant.

This meant that she became pregnant again when Maddie was just five weeks old.

Speaking to the Kiwi Birth Tales podcast, she said: “I just couldn’t believe it had happened.

“It took me a week to process it, and then I felt so excited.”

When Maddie was 11 months old, Hannah gave birth to a son named Oscar.

Babies born less than 12 months apart are known are Irish twins, meaning that Hannah’s two children are technically twins.

The term Irish twins was initially used as a derogatory term aimed at Irish-Catholics who emigrated to America.

As Catholics do not believe in contraception, Irish families were often large, with children born close together in age.

Hannah said that Maddie immediately became obsessed with her little brother.

She added that there has never been any jealousy between the pair, as having a sibling is all they has ever known.

The mum-of-two said revealed that has received comments from trolls, who said that it was unfair on Maddie for her to have another baby so soon, as it meant her oldest child would get less attention.

However, Hannah said that having Irish twins was the “best thing I ever did”.

She added that having another baby so soon actually allowed her to spend more time with Maddie, when she was on maternity leave after Oscar was born.

Hannah said that she found juggling the two babies challenging but said that Oscar fitted into their busy routine without two much difficulty.

“They would have nap times and go to bed at the same time”, she said.

Now that the Irish twins are older, Hannah said that they are the best of friends.

She said that she would recommend having Irish twins to anyone.

“They always have a little mate to play with and keep each other entertained”, she said.
